Settings Overview

This guide explains all the settings available in Shipit and what they do. Use these settings to control how your shipping labels are created, when orders are fulfilled, and how automations work.

Sender Settings

Where to find it: Settings > Sender Information

These are your warehouse or store details that appear on shipping labels.

What to fill in:

  • Name: Your company or store name
  • Address: Full warehouse/shipping address
  • Contact Person: Who carriers should contact for pickup
  • Email & Phone: Contact information for shipping issues
  • VAT Number / Business ID: Required for customs and international shipping
  • EORI Number: Required for EU international shipments

Important notes:

  • Is Company: Check this box if shipping as a business (most users should check this)
  • Domestic Only: Enable this if you only ship within your own country - this hides international shipping options

Tips

Make sure your sender address is complete and accurate - carriers use this for pickups and it appears on all shipping labels.

Automation Settings

Where to find it: Settings > Automations

Control when shipping labels are created automatically and when Shopify orders are marked as fulfilled.

Shipment Generation

Choose when shipping labels should be created automatically:

  • Off: You manually create labels (click "Create Shipment" for each order)
  • When order is paid: Labels create automatically as soon as payment is confirmed
  • When order is ready: Wait for you to mark order as ready before creating label

Which should I choose?

  • Most stores use "When order is paid" for faster processing
  • Use "Manual" if you need to check inventory first
  • Use "When ready" if you pack first, then print labels

Order Fulfillment

Choose when Shopify orders are marked as "Fulfilled":

  • Off: You manually mark orders fulfilled in Shopify
  • When label is created: Automatically fulfill as soon as label is generated
  • When label is downloaded: Fulfill only after you download the label

Which should I choose?

  • Use "When label is created" if you ship everything you create labels for
  • Use "When downloaded" if you sometimes cancel shipments
  • Use "Off" if you fulfill orders manually at a different time

Order Confirmation Email

  • Send order confirmation email: When enabled, customers get an email when their order is processed
  • Most stores keep this ON

Order Tagging

Tag orders with downloaded labels:

  • When enabled, adds a tag to Shopify orders after you download their labels
  • Tag name: What tag to add (default: "Label Downloaded")
  • Useful for filtering which orders have been shipped

Tag new orders automatically:

  • Adds a custom tag to all new orders when they arrive
  • Helpful for filtering orders in Shopify

Parcel Weight Preference

Choose where to get package weights from:

  • Shopify: Use product weights from your Shopify store (default)
  • Manual: You enter weight for each shipment
  • Custom: Set default weights per shipping method

Checkout Settings

Where to find it: Settings > Checkout

Control how shipping methods appear to customers at checkout.

Shipping Method Sort

Choose how shipping options are displayed:

  • Cheapest First: Show lowest price options first (recommended for most stores)
  • Fastest First: Show quickest delivery options first
  • Custom Order: You manually arrange the order
  • Carrier Priority: Group by your preferred carriers

Which should I choose?

  • Most customers want Cheapest First
  • Use Fastest First if you sell urgent/time-sensitive products
  • Use Custom Order if you want complete control

Carrier Priority

If you select "Carrier Priority" sorting, you can choose which carriers to show first.

Example: If you prefer Matkahuolto, put it first - all Matkahuolto options will appear before other carriers.

Advanced Delivery Sorting

If you need more control than "cheapest first" or basic carrier priority, use Advanced delivery sorting.

It lets you:

  • define ordered shipping methods
  • choose whether those methods are preferred first or kept in exact order
  • keep sorting rules for the rest of the checkout and for ordering inside those listed method buckets

Shipment Settings

Where to find it: Settings > Shipments

Advanced settings for how shipments are created.

Cash on Delivery (COD)

If you offer COD payment:

  • Bank Account: Where COD payments should be deposited
  • Bank Code: Your bank's identifier code

Item Descriptions

Item description source: What to put on shipping labels for package contents

  • Product name: Use Shopify product names (default)
  • SKU: Use product SKU codes
  • Custom: Enter your own description

Customs Information (for international shipping)

Contents source: What to declare for customs

  • None: Don't add contents description
  • Product names: List actual product names
  • Custom: Use a generic description

Custom contents text: If you chose "Custom" above, enter what to put (e.g., "Clothing and accessories")

Warning

For international shipments, accurate customs information is legally required. Using "None" will cause delays.

Pack and Scan Settings

Where to find it: Settings > Pack and Scan

If you use the Pack and Scan feature for warehouse operations.

Packing Slip Automation

Open packing slip automatically:

  • Off: You manually open packing slips
  • On scan: Opens automatically when you scan an order barcode
  • Always: Opens for every order

After scanning:

  • Do nothing: Manual workflow
  • Auto-fulfill: Marks order fulfilled when scanned

Fulfill After Scan

When enabled, orders are automatically marked as fulfilled in Shopify after you scan them.

Barcode Format

Choose what type of barcodes to use:

  • Standard barcode: Regular barcode format
  • QR code: Square QR codes (better for mobile scanning)

Auto-book on Scan

When enabled, automatically books the shipment with the carrier when you scan the order (saves a click).

How Settings Work Together

Settings interact with each other. Here's how:

Example 1: Fully Automated Store

Shipment Generation: "When order is paid"
Fulfillment: "When label is created"
Tag downloaded labels: ON

What happens:

  1. Customer places order and pays
  2. Label creates automatically within minutes
  3. Order marked fulfilled in Shopify automatically
  4. When you download the batch, orders get tagged
  5. You print labels and ship

Example 2: Manual Control Store

Shipment Generation: "Manual"
Fulfillment: "Off"
Tag downloaded labels: OFF

What happens:

  1. Customer places order
  2. You check inventory
  3. You click "Create Shipment" manually
  4. You download labels
  5. You mark order fulfilled in Shopify manually
  6. You ship

Example 3: Pack and Scan Workflow

Shipment Generation: "When ready"
Fulfillment: "When label is downloaded"
Pack and Scan: Fulfill after scan ON

What happens:

  1. Orders come in but labels don't create yet
  2. You mark orders as "Ready to ship"
  3. Labels create automatically
  4. You scan orders while packing
  5. Orders auto-fulfill when scanned
  6. Download batch at end of day

Common Settings Combinations

High-Volume Store (100+ orders/day)

  • Shipment generation: When paid
  • Fulfillment: When label created
  • Checkout sorting: Cheapest first
  • Pack and scan: Enable with auto-fulfill

Low-Volume Store (Manual checking)

  • Shipment generation: Manual
  • Fulfillment: Manual
  • Checkout sorting: Cheapest first
  • Pack and scan: Off

International Store

  • Shipment generation: When paid
  • Item description: Product names
  • Contents source: Product names
  • Domestic only: OFF

Need Help?

If you're unsure which settings to use:

  1. Start with defaults (automation ON, cheapest first sorting)
  2. Try for a week
  3. Adjust based on your workflow

Most stores do well with:

  • Automatic label generation when paid
  • Automatic fulfillment when label created
  • Cheapest first sorting
